Is CV really more important than Cover Letter?

When we are running a business, of course we need employee to work and support the business, and today I would like to share my idea about cover letter and CV that some people believe differently when they are applying for the job.

It is believed that CV is more important than cover letter; however, as the one who works for recruiting department, I argue that both CV and cover letter are important to its individual purpose. I would like to raised up the following points to prove that they both are important.

Firstly, cover letter is the one shows the recruiter of the candidate interest and how well the candidate have research about the company or organization that they are applying for. This shows that they really care for the job they are applying for by telling something they know about the organization and add their personal skills and experience to fit the position.

Secondly, the CV describes candidates’ educational level, their additional skills, their special award, and importantly, it shows the reader of what they have been doing before applying to the new company. The reader can see the qualification through the description in the CV, so it is the primary judgement that reader would made before contacting for the next process of recruitment.

Thirdly, creating both cover letter and CV shows that the candidate put time and effort to the job they are applying for. Some candidates apply for job without completing the full requirement of cover letter and CV and some even submit only CV without cover letter, and when the recruiter ask to fulfill those requirements, the would ignore replying or telling they do not have enough time and quitted on the application.

In conclusion, the cover letter and the CV are important for each individual based on the purpose of candidate to express themselves to the recruiter, and surely it cannot be a good one without both supporting document, cover letter and CV.
